Mariam Ghani is an artist, writer, and filmmaker affiliated with Bennington College's Visual Arts program since Fall 2018. Her practice spans video, sound, installation, photography, performance, text, and data, focusing on the visible manifestations of social, political, and cultural structures.
- Exhibitions and screenings at major institutions including the Guggenheim, MoMA, Met Breuer, and international biennials like Sharjah and Liverpool.
- Published in platforms such as e-Flux, Frieze, Foreign Policy, and edited readers including Assuming Boycott and Utopian Pulse.
- Collaborative projects: Afghan Films (since 2012), Performed Places (2006–ongoing), and Index of the Disappeared (2004–ongoing).
Her teaching career includes roles at Stevens Institute of Technology, Parsons, Cooper Union, Pratt, NYU, and CUNY Graduate Center, emphasizing research-based, interdisciplinary, and site-responsive practices.
Notable awards include Creative Capital, Art Matters, and the 2017 CCR Changemaker Storyteller Award. She has participated in residencies at 18th Street Arts Center and Yale Law's Schell Center.
