Mariah Kramer is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Cinema and Media Arts at Vanderbilt University's College of Arts and Science. She is also the Faculty Advisor for the POINT OF VU Student Film Festival and a dedicated advocate for women in film through her role as co-founder and board member of UpTilt Film Fest.
Her educational background includes an MFA in Film and Video Production from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with specializations in documentaries, independent film, and festival programming.
Mariah's research and creative work focus on documentary storytelling, personal and family narratives, and the universal human experiences revealed through intimate stories. Her films explore themes of resilience, identity, and memory, often rooted in autobiographical or familial history. She believes in the power of storytelling to transform personal moments into shared, collective experiences.
Her work has been screened at numerous national film festivals, including the Bend Film Festival and Cucalorus Film Festival, with her short documentary This Is My Home Now premiering on PBS and the World Channel. Her latest project, Shirley, delves into the life of her maternal grandmother, who died young from polycystic kidney disease, leaving behind six children.
