Maria del Carmen Gimenez Lopez

Maria del Carmen Gimenez Lopez serves as a Professor in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Santiago de Compostela, with additional affiliations at the Research Center in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CIQUS) and leadership in the MAT2 Condensed Matter & Functional Materials research group.

Her academic foundation includes a 2006 PhD from the University of Valencia under the supervision of Dr. Eugenio Coronado and Dr. Francisco M. Romero Martinez, with doctoral research focused on Multifunctional materials of interest in molecular magnetism, bistable systems and hybrid materials based on coordination chemistry.

Her research program emphasizes molecular-scale material design, particularly in Molecular Magnetism and Coordination Chemistry, where she investigates bistable systems and hybrid coordination compounds for advanced electronic applications. Current work centers on functional molecular materials exhibiting spin crossover phenomena and magnetic switching behavior, with implications for quantum computing and molecular spintronics. The MAT2 group under her guidance explores structure-property relationships in transition metal complexes to develop next-generation multifunctional materials.

Through CIQUS and the MAT2 research group, she contributes to interdisciplinary collaborations bridging inorganic synthesis, physical characterization, and theoretical modeling to advance molecular materials science.
