Maria de Fátima Guimarães Cerqueira

Maria de Fátima Guimarães Cerqueira serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Minho, Portugal, with her office located at Campus de Gualtar (Room 06.01.17.15). She maintains a dual affiliation through her role as a visiting researcher at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), where she contributes to advanced materials development projects.

Her research spans Semiconductors Physics, Nanotechnology, and Raman Spectroscopy with specialization in functional thin-film systems. Key focus areas include nc-Si:Er films for 1.5μm optical communications emitters, doped ZnO for transparent electrodes and spintronics applications, high-performance silicon nitride moisture barriers, and graphene device fabrication. She employs advanced characterization techniques including Raman spectroscopy, Hall effect measurements, Faraday rotation, photoluminescence, and photoconductivity to analyze electronic and optical properties of nanomaterials.

At INL, Dr. Cerqueira is an integral member of the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth team dedicated to graphene synthesis and device integration. Her interdisciplinary work bridges fundamental materials science with practical applications in optoelectronics, flexible electronics, and next-generation spintronic systems through innovative material engineering approaches.
