Maria da Graça Chorão

Maria da Graça Chorão serves as a Senior Lecturer in Languages and Cultures at the Porto Accounting and Business School (ISCAP), part of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP), and holds an Associate Researcher position. She is actively affiliated with the research units CEOS.PP (Center for Organizational and Social Studies) and Transmedia Portugal, contributing to interdisciplinary projects in language and media studies.

Her academic foundation includes a Master of Anglo-American Culture from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Lisbon and a PhD in Translation and Paratranslation from the University of Vigo. These qualifications underpin her expertise in cross-cultural communication and translation theory.

Dr. Chorão's research centers on Audiovisual Translation, with specialized focus on Subtitling and Dubbing methodologies. She critically examines how these practices intersect with Accessibility for sensory-impaired audiences and promote broader Inclusion in media consumption. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications to enhance equitable access to audiovisual content across diverse cultural contexts.

Through CEOS.PP and Transmedia Portugal, she engages in collaborative initiatives advancing language education and transmedia communication strategies, emphasizing socially responsible research that addresses contemporary challenges in media representation and accessibility standards.
