Maria Väisänen holds a PhD and works as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oulu, Faculty of Technology, within the Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering Research Unit. A terrestrial ecologist, she investigates herbivore-plant-soil interactions and their impacts on biogeochemical processes, as well as plant and soil faunal/microbial communities. Her research focuses on how climate change and local environmental conditions shape these dynamics in arctic-alpine, permafrost-affected tundra ecosystems, boreal forests, and peatlands.
