معرفی
Maria Teresa Putellas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Girona, affiliated with the Polytechnic School. She leads research in the Environmental Physics Research Group, focusing on hydrodynamic processes in aquatic ecosystems. Her work bridges environmental fluid mechanics, microplastics transport, and ecological engineering.
Research Interests: Dr. Putellas investigates: (1) Transport mechanisms of sediments and microplastics in coastal/riverine systems; (2) Interactions between hydrodynamics, vegetation, and particle dynamics; (3) Nature-based wastewater treatment using Daphnia magna filtration; (4) Ecological solutions for pollution mitigation in wetlands and coastal zones. Her projects include PlastikHUM (microplastics in wetlands), EU COST Action PRIORITY (coastal microplastics), and LIFE BIODAPH2O (wastewater treatment).
Publication Trends: Recent articles (2019-2025) predominantly explore microplastics sedimentation, seagrass canopy hydrodynamics, turbidity currents, and Daphnia-based water treatment. Common themes include particle transport under varied flow regimes, vegetation-mediated pollution control, and ecosystem-scale applications of fluid mechanics principles.
Grants & Collaboration: She coordinates multidisciplinary projects involving sediment resuspension studies (WINDERS), wetland restoration, and EU-funded initiatives. Collaborations span hydrology, ecology, and environmental engineering, with frequent co-authorship within her research group and European networks.
