Dr. Maria Tatulea-Codrean is a Lynden-Bell Research Fellow at Clare College, University of Cambridge, within the Faculty of Mathematics' Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). She holds affiliations with Collège de France (Paris) as an external collaborator and previously held postdoctoral roles there. Her research focuses on biological fluid mechanics, exploring bacterial flagellar motors, hydrodynamic interactions between filaments, and synchronization of oscillators in biological systems.
Education:
- PhD in Applied Mathematics (2017-2021), DAMTP, University of Cambridge
- BA and MMath (2013-2017), Trinity College, University of Cambridge
Research Interests: Maria investigates flows in biological systems, including filament interactions, bacterial motility mechanisms, and rhythmic synchronization phenomena. She employs mathematical modeling and fluid dynamics principles to study systems like bacterial flagella tangling, phoretic swimmer behavior, and nonlinear oscillator networks.
Publications: Her work bridges fluid dynamics and biophysics, addressing topics such as multiflagellate bacterial swimming, elastohydrodynamic synchronization, and asymptotic theories for slender filaments. Recent studies highlight geometric constraints on flagellar motion and artificial chemotaxis strategies.
Labs & Teams: She contributes to the Biological Fluid Mechanics group at DAMTP, collaborating with institutions like Collège de France to advance interdisciplinary research in active matter and microscale biophysics.
