Maria Schildt is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at Uppsala University's Department of Musicology, Faculty of Arts. Her work focuses on early modern music history, particularly Swedish court music, cultural transfer, and adaptation processes in musical practice.
- Active in three externally funded projects (2014-2019) on European music transfer, Swedish Independence Age repertoire, and church music history.
- Principal investigator in Translatio musicae: French and Italian music in northern Europe, ca. 1650-1730 and infrastructure projects on court music during the Swedish era of freedom.
- Collaborates on the Church music in Sweden project (2020) with the Swedish Academy of Letters.
Her research methodology emphasizes musicals as material artifacts, analyzing how music was transmitted through networks and social structures. She has also contributed extensively to digitization efforts via the Düben Collection Database Catalogue.
Recent publications highlight trends in French and Italian music's influence on Swedish courts, adaptation of operatic works, and the role of music in political and ceremonial contexts. She has co-authored studies on musical exchange during Queen Christina's reign and the Düben Collection's provenance.
