Maria Pia Fanti

Maria Pia Fanti is a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering of the Polytechnic of Bari, Italy. She earned her Laurea in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa in 1983 and has held visiting researcher positions at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her academic career spans over three decades at the Polytechnic of Bari, transitioning from Assistant Professor (1990-1998) to Associate Professor (1990-2012) before attaining her current role.

Her research focuses on Discrete event systems, Petri net, Consensus algorithms, Networked and control systems, and their applications to logistics, manufacturing, automated vehicles, traffic networks, and healthcare systems. She has authored over 280 publications, including 85 journal papers, 11 book chapters, and two books.

She serves as Editor of IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems. Her leadership roles include General Chair of IEEE SMC 2019, Program Co-Chair of CoDIT'19, and Steering Committee member of IEEE CASE 2019. She actively participates in IEEE societies and IFAC technical committees.
