Maria-Paola Forte

Maria-Paola Forte is a Doctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, holding dual affiliations with the Haptic Intelligence Department (led by Dr. Katherine J. Kuchenbecker) and the Perceiving Systems Department (led by Dr. Michael J. Black).

Education:

• BSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Genova (2015), thesis: "Crowd Motion Analysis using Optical Flow"
• MSc in Bioengineering (Technologies for Electronics) from Politecnico di Milano (2018); exchange program at the University of Queensland and master's thesis research at MPI-IS on "Robust Visual Augmented Reality in Robot-Assisted Surgery"

Research Interests: Forte pioneers assistive technology development, focusing on Sign Language Capture through integrated vision-based and sensor-based human pose estimation. Her work extends to enhancing robotic surgery performance, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise across engineering, computer vision, and human-computer interaction to address sensory and motor deficits.

Labs and Teams: As an IMPRS-IS PhD candidate, she actively contributes to cross-departmental initiatives at MPI-IS, bridging haptic intelligence and perceptual systems research to advance human-centered technological solutions.
