Maria Olaussen

Maria Olaussen is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg in the Department of Languages and Literatures. Her academic career includes previous roles at Linnaeus University and the University of Stellenbosch, with fellowships at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study and University of Cape Town.

• Research Focus: English-language African literature, Indian Ocean narratives of slavery, ecocritical perspectives on human-animal relationships
• Key Projects: Nobel Symposium in African Literature, The Narrating Animal (Riksbankens Jubileumsfond funded)

Her publications since 2013 analyze themes of colonialism, memory, and ecological critique across African and Indian Ocean literatures. Recent work explores narrative techniques for representing social justice and authoritarianism.
