Maria Luigia Segnana is a Full Professor of International Economics at the Department of Economics and Management, part of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Trento. She has held academic positions since 1986, including Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Trento (2007-2010) and Visiting Academic roles at institutions like the University of Sussex and Freie Universität Berlin. Her expertise spans international trade, offshoring strategies, and firm behavior in globalized economies. She has led numerous research projects on EU integration, economic development, and gender auditing.
Education includes a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics (1981) and a degree from the University of Bologna (1980). She has been a National Research Council Graduate Fellow (1981-1983) and recipient of the Premio Tarantelli (1998).
Research focuses on trade theories, global value chains, and the interplay between firm strategies and internationalization. Notable works analyze offshoring’s productivity effects, EU-CEEC integration, and labor market dynamics in Italy. Her work bridges theoretical models with empirical studies on multinational firms and policy implications.
