Maria Lantin

Maria Lantin serves as Director of Research and Director of Intersections Digital Studio at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, where she bridges computing science expertise with artistic practice. With a PhD in Computing Science from Simon Fraser University, she previously led the Visualization Research Lab at Banff Centre's Banff New Media Institute before joining Emily Carr.

Her research focuses on immersive digital environments, particularly exploring the intersection of physical and virtual breath in interactive installations. Lantin's work combines stereoscopic video, biometric sensing, and data visualization to create experiences that examine how humans interact with media environments. Her projects often investigate how information flows through social groups and how virtual spaces affect bodily awareness.
