Maria L Figueredo

Maria Figueredo is Associate Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. She teaches Spanish and Latin American literature courses and serves as Research Fellow of the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean. Her research examines intersections between literature and music in Latin America, music as subtext in women's writing, and contemporary innovations in Spanish American literature.

Research focuses on:

• Socio-cultural processes of poetry set to music
• Hermeneutic phenomenology in literature
• Contemporary Latin American e-poetries
• Embodiment in Spanish American literature

Figueredo received the President's University-wide Teaching Award in 2016 for her innovative teaching approaches. She has led significant community initiatives including the Pan Am 2015 Poet-Tree Project and the Literature & Music in Spanish America dialogue series.
