Research Interests:
Dr. Kastrinou's research spans political anthropology, sectarianism, statelessness, refugee studies, and colonial resistance. She has extensively documented the Druze minority in Syria, analyzed the political economy of conflict, and explored the role of hospitality among Syrian refugees in Greece. Her work often bridges anthropology with theatre and visual storytelling, as seen in her co-founding of the Hotspot Collective and production of 'The Price of Water'.
Key Contributions:
Her 2016 monograph Power, Sect and State in Syria provides the first ethnography of Syria's Druze minority. Recent publications address the colonial logic of Israeli occupation (2024), sectarianization in Jaramana and Golan (2025), and hospitality as resistance (2024). She also contributes to debates on ethnic cleansing, migrant policing, and agrarian movements.
