Maria Jean Coolican

Maria Jean Coolican is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Marsal Family School of Education, University of Michigan. Her expertise spans second language acquisition, student teacher learning, and the role of failure in teacher education. She holds a PhD from the University of Michigan and has extensive experience in K-12 education, having served as a high school teacher, assistant principal, and principal.

Her research focuses on educational leadership, teacher education reform, national standards, and urban/Catholic education systems. Key intellectual clusters include Educational Leadership, Organization, & Policy. Prior to academia, her administrative roles in public and private schools provided foundational insights into educational challenges and reforms.
