Maria Iacovou is a Professor in Quantitative Sociology at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Fitzwilliam College. Her interdisciplinary research bridges sociology, economics, and demography. She previously worked at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex from 1997 to 2013 and served as Director of the Social Sciences Research Methods Programme (SSRMP) at Cambridge between 2015 and 2019.
Her research focuses on family relationships, household structures, and their socioeconomic impacts, particularly transitions to adulthood, childbearing intentions, and infant feeding patterns. Her publications span journals like Advances in Life Course Research, European Journal of Public Health, and Demographic Research, emphasizing quantitative methods and comparative European studies.
Maria supervises PhD students with quantitative proposals in family demography or labor economics, including Katarzyna Doniec, Lijia Guo, Hei-Wan Mak, and Margaret Ontita. She has contributed to key projects such as the EU-SILC longitudinal research and authored foundational works on social Europe and household poverty.
