Maria Holst Algren is a Senior Researcher at the National Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark. Her work focuses on public health epidemiology, particularly social inequalities in health and advanced quantitative methods for analyzing survey and register-based data.

Her recent research examines socioeconomic determinants of health behaviors, mental health disparities, and public health interventions using nationwide register data and large-scale surveys. She has contributed to studies on occupational health risks, HPV vaccine uptake, and forecasting trends in common diseases.
She actively participates in workshops and conferences, including the 11th Nordic Conference of Epidemiology and Register-based Health Research, and leads projects such as Concurrent Substance Use and Gambling Problems (2025–2027) and Forecasting Seven Common Public Diseases (2024–2025).
