Prof. Dr. Maria Gäde serves as Professor at Humboldt University of Berlin's Faculty of Philosophy, leading the Chair of Information Retrieval within the Institute for Library and Information Science. Her dual focus spans academic instruction across Bachelor's and Master's programs and cutting-edge research in multilingual information systems.
Research centers on three pillars: Evaluation of Information Systems through user behavior analytics, Multilingual Information Retrieval for cross-lingual access, and Information & Digital Literacy frameworks. Current projects include DigitaLRaum (2021-2022) exploring virtual research environments, building on her European contributions to Europeana v2.0 and EuropeanaConnect.
Administratively, she drives curriculum development as Board Member of the Commission for Teaching and Studies (LSK), oversees examinations via the PAU committee, and represents staff interests on the Higher Education Sector Council. Students access her through dedicated advising channels for academic planning and Erasmus coordination.
The Chair of Information Retrieval functions as her core research unit, investigating how multilingual interfaces impact information discovery. Her work bridges theoretical retrieval models with practical digital literacy applications, particularly in academic library contexts.
