Maria Galazo is an Assistant Professor at Tulane University's School of Science & Engineering, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, and a core member of the Tulane Brain Institute. Her research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms governing brain circuit development and function, particularly in higher cognitive skills. She employs mouse genetics, optogenetics, and neural activity recordings in behaving animals. Dr. Galazo's work addresses how developmental disruptions lead to neurological disorders and explores strategies to mitigate miswiring effects. She is affiliated with the Galazo Lab and supervises graduate students in the Cell and Molecular Biology and Neuroscience programs.
