Maria Frankland is a Lecturer of Educational Leadership and Program Coordinator for Graduate Programs in Educational Leadership at the University of Maine’s College of Education and Human Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership (2020) from the University of Maine, alongside advanced degrees in school counseling and human relations from Husson University, complemented by undergraduate studies in biochemistry and biology from the University of Dallas.
Her research focuses on trauma-informed approaches in rural education, social-emotional learning, and community school initiatives. Dr. Frankland emphasizes addressing childhood adversity’s impact on students and educators, particularly in underserved regions. Notable contributions include work on crisis leadership during the pandemic and culturally responsive leadership strategies in remote areas.
Frankland teaches over 25 advanced courses in educational leadership, including research methods, policy analysis, organizational behavior, and dissertation guidance. She has mentored numerous graduate students through internship placements and research projects.
Her awards include the 2022 Best Research Award from the National Rural Education Association and the 2024 Faculty Mentor Impact Award from the University of Maine. Her work bridges academic research with practical solutions for school systems facing systemic challenges.
