Dr Maria Fotopoulou is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Stirling. She is affiliated with the Crime & Justice research group. Prior to this role, she worked in policy and service evaluation for health and social care of marginalized groups in the UK and Greece.
Research Interests:
- Historical construction of 'problem drug users' and substance use policies
- Gender dimensions of substance use recovery
- Impact of drug use on families and communities
- Policy analysis of problematization processes in drug policy
- Needs of refugees, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied children
Awards & Projects:
- 2018: Led a knowledge exchange project addressing tri-morbidity (homelessness, health issues, substance use) through international best practice dialogue
Labs/Teams: Active member of the Crime & Justice research group at the University of Stirling.
