Maria Forsberg serves as Senior Lecturer at Uppsala University's Department of Law within the Faculty of Law, and is affiliated with the Institute for Research on Goal Conflicts in Sustainable Societal Transformation. She concurrently holds the position of Deputy Dean (Biträdande prefekt) at the Department of Law, maintaining active contact through university channels including email maria.forsberg@jur.uu.se.
Her research critically examines environmental law through the lens of forest biodiversity conservation and sustainable forestry practices. She investigates legal ambiguities in biodiversity preservation frameworks, analyzes trade-offs between economic forestry and ecological protection, and develops policy instruments for sustainable societal transformation. Key focus areas include species protection legislation, landscape-scale forest planning, and implementation challenges of international conventions like the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Analysis of her publication trajectory reveals consistent emphasis on resolving goal conflicts in sustainability transitions, particularly through legal reinforcement of forest management systems. Her work demonstrates interdisciplinary integration of ecological science with jurisprudence, addressing uncertainties in environmental governance while proposing concrete legal solutions for biodiversity conservation.
Dr. Forsberg actively contributes to the Institute for Research on Goal Conflicts in Sustainable Societal Transformation, where she collaborates on cross-disciplinary projects examining institutional barriers and legal pathways for achieving sustainability targets in complex socio-ecological systems.
