Maria Fernanda Escallon

Maria Fernanda Escallon is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University, where she focuses on the political and economic implications of heritage declarations. She also held a Dissertation Fellowship at the University of California Santa Barbara's Department of Black Studies (2015-2016) and has a multidisciplinary background in anthropology and archaeology.

Her research interrogates how heritage recognition can exacerbate marginalization of minority groups, addressing broader issues like economic inequality and territorial rights. She has contributed to academic publications, including a forthcoming co-edited book and journal articles on heritage politics and cultural diplomacy.
