Maria Elena Cuevas is a Professor of Biology at Southwestern University in the Department of Biology within the College of Arts and Sciences. Her academic career spans over three decades with significant contributions to the fields of endocrinology, reproductive biology, and cancer research.

Professor Cuevas specializes in endocrinology, the biology of reproduction, physiology, and tissue culture techniques. Her work frequently examines claudins (especially claudin-3 and claudin-4) and their role in cancer cell behavior, with significant emphasis on hormonal influences on cancer cell lines.
