Dr. Maria Doyle is Professor of English and Graduate Coordinator at the University of West Georgia's School of Humanities. She earned her PhD in English from UCLA in 1998 and is a 2024-2025 Governor's Teaching Fellow. Her office is located in Boyd Building Room 322.
Her research focuses on Irish literature and theater, with specialization in gender studies, postcolonial theory, and cultural history. She examines representations of national identity, feminist perspectives in Irish drama, and the interplay between political conflict and artistic expression.
Dr. Doyle has published extensively on Irish playwrights including Marina Carr, Brian Friel, and Martin McDonagh. Her scholarship analyzes theatrical representations of violence, patriarchal structures, and colonial legacies in Irish society. Recent work includes co-editing The Golden Thread: Irish Women Playwrights, 1716–2016 (2023).
She maintains office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11-12 and 5-6, Tuesdays from 2-5, and by appointment.
