Maria Dolores Corella Piquer

Maria Dolores Corella Piquer is a Full Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Valencia, affiliated with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences. She leads the EPIGEM (Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology) research group and has directed the Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition group within CIBER since 2006. Her work bridges genomics, epidemiology, and public health, with a focus on personalized prevention of chronic diseases.

Her research interests include nutritional genomics, gene-environment interactions, and the integration of multi-omics data (genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, exposomics) in the study of cardiometabolic diseases and healthy aging. She has pioneered the application of molecular genetics in epidemiological research in Spain since establishing the first Research Unit in Molecular Genetic Epidemiology at the University of Valencia in 1998.

Dolores Corella has received numerous accolades, including the 2018 Jaume I Prize in Medical Research, the Gregorio Marañón Memorial Prize, and the International Hippocrates Prize. She has published over 325 articles in international journals and supervised more than 20 doctoral theses.

She earned her PhD from the University of Valencia in 1994 with a thesis titled Indicadores de salud seleccionados: correlación entre factores alimentarios y tabaco y mortalidad por enfermedades crónicas. España (1965-89), supervised by Dr. Pedro Cortina Greus. She also holds a degree in Food Science and Technology and completed advanced training in the United States.

She has been a professor at the Faculty of Medicine since 2009 and has coordinated the University of Valencia's participation in the Spanish Network of Healthy Universities since 2011. She continues to lead cutting-edge research in precision public health and genomic epidemiology.
