Maria Cecilia Cardarelli is a Full Professor in the Department of Legal Sciences at the University of Salento, specializing in Commercial Law. She has been with the university since November 5, 2012, and was appointed as a full professor on December 31, 2016.
Her academic journey began with a Law Degree with highest honors from the University of Siena in 1982, followed by a PhD in Commercial Law from the University of Rome "La Sapienza". She served as a Researcher of Commercial Law at the University of Siena from 1991 and became an Associate Professor in 2002.
Professor Cardarelli teaches several courses including "Denominazioni di origine e tutela del made in Italy" (6 CFU), "Diritto commerciale (m-z)" (12 CFU) for the Department of Economic Sciences, and "Inclusione e cooperazione sociale" with Professor Sara Tommasi in the specialized degree course "Governance Euromediterranea". She also conducts a laboratory on Corporate Acts and Balance Sheet.
She has supervised numerous graduate students whose theses cover topics such as Bank Financing for Businesses in Crisis, Reform of Cooperative Credit Banks, Financing from srl members, Ambush Marketing, Italian Surrinding, Biotechnological Patents, and Innovative Startups and Over-Indebtedness.
Professor Cardarelli has held significant leadership roles including Vice Director of the Department of Legal Sciences from 2014 to 2019, President of the Department's AQ-RD Commission, and Coordinator of the departmental research unit LED – "Law and Economics for local Development". She is also a member of the faculty board of the PhD program "Diritto dei beni privati, pubblici e comuni" and participates in the working group for the reorganization of the Master's Degree in Law.
