Maria Burns is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Construction Management/Political Science at the University of Houston’s College of Technology. Her research focuses on the intersection of data science, security, and logistics, with applications in energy, maritime, and homeland security sectors. She specializes in network analysis, AI-driven risk assessment, and policy analysis for critical infrastructure protection.
Her work integrates multidisciplinary approaches including machine learning, time-series forecasting, and data visualization to address complex challenges such as human trafficking, cargo security, and port resilience. Key areas include supply chain vulnerability analysis, maritime security protocols, and the economic/environmental impacts of port activities.
