Maria Bergström is a Senior Lecturer in biochemical methodology at Linnaeus University, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. She holds a chemistry degree from Stockholm University and has industry experience in the pharmaceutical sector (Astra, Kabi, SBL). Her research focuses on analytical methods like mass spectrometry, chromatography, and optimizing micronutrient/phytochemical content in food. She leads the Nutrition and Food Sciences (NutriLivs) bachelor program and teaches courses in general chemistry, biochemistry, and food chemistry.
Research interests span food science (e.g., health-promoting substances in sea buckthorn) and ecological chemistry (insect chemical signaling). She collaborates with Prof. Cornelia Witthöft (Food Science) and Prof. Rikard Unelius (Ecological Chemistry). Notable projects include optimizing food nutrients and studying legume-based ingredients. She supervises student theses and serves as a safety representative for KOB and Sulf union chair at Linnaeus University.
