Maria Arapovics serves as an Associate Professor at the Institute of Social Studies within the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest, Hungary. Holding both PhD and Habilitation credentials, she maintains an active academic presence with her office located at room 205C, Pázmány Péter sétány 1/a, and contactable via email arapovics.maria@tatk.elte.hu and phone 372-2500/6727.
Her research spans community development, social work, adult education (andragogy), nonprofit organizations, and cultural institutions, with particular emphasis on Hungarian contexts. She investigates the socialization of cultural institutions, volunteer management in museums, EU-funded social innovation projects, and historical frameworks of adult education from the Enlightenment era to contemporary practices. Her work consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with practical community applications, especially regarding museums' roles in local development and societal integration.
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications (2011-2019) reveals three dominant research trajectories: (1) methodological frameworks for community development with practical guides and theoretical paradigms; (2) cultural institutions' evolving roles in community building, including museum socialization and volunteer management; and (3) historical and contemporary analyses of adult education and social participation. These interconnected themes demonstrate her interdisciplinary approach spanning sociology, cultural studies, and social policy, with consistent focus on Hungarian case studies and EU-level implications. Her recent work increasingly examines digital dimensions of community engagement through social media analysis.
