Mari Murtonen is a Professor of Higher Education Pedagogy at the University of Turku, Finland, and serves as the Leader of the UTUPEDA Centre. With extensive experience across traditional and digital higher education environments, her work focuses on enhancing teachers' pedagogical expertise and students' scientific thinking and research skills. She has held academic roles at multiple institutions, including as Adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki and former Professor at Tampere University.

Murtonen’s research explores:

Murtonen has contributed to projects like the UNIPS digital learning solution and has held researcher positions at the Universities of Turku, Helsinki, Jyväskylä, and California at Berkeley. Her collaborative studies employ eye-tracking, video analysis, and self-report methodologies to assess pedagogical effectiveness.
