Mari Hovinen serves as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Production Animal Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Helsinki. She is actively involved in research on dairy cow health and welfare, with a particular focus on mastitis prevention, dry cow therapy, and rumen health. Her work bridges clinical practice with scientific research to improve dairy farming practices.

- Dairy cow health management, particularly during transition periods
- Mastitis prevention and treatment protocols, including selective dry cow therapy
- Rumen and reticular health monitoring in dairy cows
- Dairy herd management practices affecting animal welfare
- Automatic milking system impacts on udder health
Dr. Hovinen's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on evidence-based approaches to dairy cow management. Her research examines the relationships between veterinary treatments and cow outcomes, mastitis prevention strategies, and rumen health indicators. She frequently collaborates with researchers across Finland to conduct field studies that translate directly to practical dairy farming applications.
