Dr. Margot Backus is a Professor of English at the University of Houston's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Her academic work spans British and Irish modernisms, queer theory, and postcolonial studies, with a focus on intersections between sexuality, trauma, and Irish cultural identity.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in English Literature from the University of Texas at Austin, B.A. from University of Massachusetts/Boston
Her research explores:
- Literary representations of child sacrifice in Anglo-Irish gothic
- Sex scandal discourse in modernist Irish literature
- Queer theory applications to James Joyce's works
