Margo Greenwood

Dr. Margo Greenwood is a full Professor in the Education Program at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), working part-time. She is an internationally recognized Indigenous scholar of Cree ancestry and holds leadership roles in national health and education policy. In November 2022, she was appointed as a Senator for British Columbia, where she advocates for children and families. She previously served as Academic Leader of the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health and interim Scientific Director of CIHR’s Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health.

Her research focuses on Indigenous health, early childhood development, and the social determinants of health. She has contributed significantly to federal early childhood programs such as the First Nations Inuit Child Care Initiative and the Aboriginal Head Start Urban and Northern Program. She co-authored the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework and is a founding member of the BC Aboriginal Child Care Society. Her work bridges academia, policy, and community engagement to advance equity and well-being for Indigenous families.

Dr. Greenwood has received numerous national honors, including:
