Margit Fauser is a Senior Lecturer at Bielefeld University's Faculty of Sociology where she currently serves as Principal Investigator for the DFG project "Urban Border Spaces" since April 2018. Her academic career spans multiple prestigious German institutions with a focus on migration studies and urban sociology.
- 2009: Earned Dr. phil. summa cum laude from Bielefeld University with thesis "Migrants and Cities: migrant organizations in new immigration cities"
- 2005-2009: Completed doctoral studies at the International Graduate School in Sociology (IGSS)

Dr. Fauser's research expertise centers on the Sociology of Migration, Transnationalization and Globalization, Urban Studies, Political Sociology, and Organization and work. Her work examines how migrant communities organize themselves in urban environments, particularly in cities that have recently become destinations for immigration. She investigates the formation of transnational social spaces and the complex relationships between migration processes and urban development.
Dr. Fauser has been instrumental in several major research initiatives including the Collaborative Research Center 882 "From Heterogeneities to Inequalities" at Bielefeld University (2011-2015) where she served as researcher and project coordinator. Her current DFG-funded project "Urban Border Spaces" represents the culmination of her scholarly trajectory examining how urban spaces function as borders or borderlands in migration contexts.
