Margarita Vives Barceló

Dr. Margarita Vives Barceló is an Interim Professor in the Department of Theory and History of Education within the Faculty of Education at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where she has worked since 2007. She serves as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education and is a member of the GIFES research team. Additionally, she is Co-Director of the Balearic Islands Youth Yearbook and Deputy Director of the Research Laboratory on Families and Living Together Modalities (LIFAC).

Her research focuses on evidence-based family prevention programs, educational gerontology, lifelong learning, conflict management, mediation, child and youth maladjustment, and intergenerational relationships. Through the GIFES research group, she has culturally adapted, implemented, and evaluated different versions of the Strengthening Families Program for selective prevention (7-12, 12-16), universal prevention (11-14), and the updated PCF 12-16 (PCF-AFECT) which emphasizes substance and non-substance addictions and affective-sexual education for adolescents in Spain.

Dr. Vives' work has demonstrated positive results in improving family communication and climate, parental competence, social skills, and reducing problem behaviors. These outcomes have been maintained in longitudinal studies, allowing for continuous program improvement. She collaborates with the Institute of Coexistence and School Success since 2022-2023 through a UIB collaboration agreement.

Her academic management experience includes serving as subject coordinator for the Pedagogy degree, chair of the Quality Assurance Committee for the Master's Degree in Socio-Educational Intervention in Minors and Families, and coordinator of postgraduate programs. She teaches across multiple degree programs including Social Education, Pedagogy, and various Master's programs focusing on socio-educational intervention with children, adolescents, and families.
