Margareth Etienne is the Carl L. Vacketta Professor at the University of Illinois' College of Law, with additional affiliations in the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory and the Center for the Study of Global Gender Equity. She holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and an A.B. from Yale University. Her research focuses on criminal law, sentencing, moral philosophy, and police practices, with a particular emphasis on procedural legitimacy and victim-blaming dynamics.
Notable collaborations include work with the Center for African Studies and the Center for Global Gender Equity. Her recent scholarship addresses constitutional challenges in police training, criminogenic risks of interrogation tactics, and education policy reforms.
Etienne has received the Fulbright Specialist Program Award (2004). Her work bridges legal theory with practical reforms, addressing systemic issues in criminal justice and educational systems. She contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives through her affiliations with multiple university units.
