Margaret Salmon is a Lecturer in Fine Art Critical Studies at the Glasgow School of Art. Her work bridges artistic practice and critical theory, focusing on feminist and activist filmmaking, environmental themes, and community storytelling. She has produced films and publications that explore intersections of ecology, gender, and social justice, often collaborating with institutions like the British Library, Edinburgh International Arts Festival, and Invisible Dust.
Salmon’s research engages with eco-feminism, underwater cinematography, and post-conflict narratives, particularly in Northern Ireland. Her notable project History of the Present (2023), co-directed with Maria Fusco, examines working-class women’s voices through experimental opera-film and live improvisation. She also contributed to the touring project Shore: How We See the Sea, addressing Scottish Marine Protected Areas through observational 35mm filmmaking.
Salmon has published works including An Artists' Guide to Analogue Cinematography (2023) and K is for Kato, an Esperanto Alphabet book (2020). Her films have been exhibited internationally, such as Cladach (2018) and Spider (2024), and she actively participates in symposia like the Aesthetica Future Now Symposium (2024).
