Maren Lehmann is a Professor of Sociology at Zeppelin University. She serves as Subproject Manager for C08 "Precarious Popularity: Political Populism as Delegitimization of Administrative Procedures" (since 2025) and leads Working Group 1 "Theories of the Popular" and Working Group 6 "The University and the Popular".

Her academic journey began with studies in design, education, and social sciences, culminating in a doctorate and habilitation in sociology. Her interdisciplinary experience across multiple universities and faculties, including the Media and Design Faculty at Bauhaus University Weimar, has profoundly shaped her research approach that bridges sociology, cultural studies, and media theory.
Research focuses on political populism, bureaucratic dynamics, communication networks, and functional differentiation. Recent publications explore themes like fear communication in dense orders, civic rage, and the aging of functional differentiation. Her work often examines how popularity assertion and legitimacy interact with administrative systems.
