Marek Ławreszuk

Rev. Dr. Hab. Marek Ławreszuk is a professor at the University of Białystok, where he serves as head of the Department of Orthodox Theology since 2012. He is also an Orthodox priest serving as parish priest of the Orthodox Parish of the Resurrection of Our Lord in Białystok. His academic career is complemented by significant contributions to Orthodox theology, liturgical studies, and church law.

His educational background includes theological studies at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw and the Orthodox Seminary in Warsaw (2001), followed by a doctorate in theological sciences (2008) and habilitation (2015), both from the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw.

Ławreszuk's research interests span dogmatic theology, ethics, canon law, nationalist ideas in Christianity, historical liturgy, Orthodox rituals, Christian iconography, religious terminology, and theolinguistics. His work demonstrates a particular focus on the intersection of Orthodox theology with contemporary social and political issues, as well as the historical development of Orthodox liturgical traditions.

His scholarly output shows consistent engagement with both theoretical and practical aspects of Orthodox Christianity, with recent publications addressing topics such as Orthodox political theology, church law systematization, Polish Orthodox terminology, and liturgical practices related to sensitive pastoral situations like infant burial.

Ławreszuk has received research funding through prestigious programs including the National Program for the Development of Humanities (NPRH), where he served as project manager for the "Dictionary of Polish Orthodox Terminology" (2017-2022) and currently leads the project "The Supraśl liturgical anthologion of Matthew the Tenth from 1507 – a scientific study and translation into Polish of the oldest liturgical manuscript from Supraśl" (2024-2029).

He has served on numerous academic committees, including as a reviewer for doctoral and habilitation theses, and has been actively involved in organizing international theological conferences. His work bridges academic theology with practical church life, reflecting his dual vocation as both scholar and priest.
