Marek Florek

Dr hab. Marek Florek is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of History and Archaeology, University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska. He specializes in Early Middle Ages and Medieval Archaeology, with a focus on settlement development, funerary rituals, and archaeological conservation. His work spans field excavations, rescue archaeology projects, and academic teaching.

• Education: MA (1981), PhD (2005), Habilitation (2016) from UMCS.

His research interests include:

• Transition from tribal to feudal settlement structures in Sandomierz Land.
• Funerary rites as markers of social differentiation in medieval Europe.
• Identification of foreign ethnic settlements through archaeological evidence.
• Spatial transformations of medieval Sandomierz.

Marek Florek participates in projects like the National Program for the Humanities and international collaborations involving non-invasive techniques in archaeology. He has led rescue excavations along highways A4 and S19.
