Mareen Bastiaans

Mareen Bastiaans is a post-doctoral researcher at the Chair for Public Economics, European University Viadrina. She holds concurrent roles as a guest researcher at the Public Economics Department of DIW Berlin and a research associate at the Berlin School of Economics. Previously, she was an External PhD candidate in Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Tinbergen Institute, supervised by Anne Gielen and Robert Dur. She earned a Research Master’s degree in Economics from Tinbergen Institute.

Her research focuses on applied microeconomics, examining how public policies and external shocks influence labor market outcomes, mental health, and their intergenerational spillover effects. Key themes include policy design, economic behavior in families, and health-economic determinants.
