Dr. Mardi McNeil is a Postdoctoral Researcher and sessional academic in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Her research focuses on cross-disciplinary marine geoscience, particularly biogenic carbonate sediments and structures such as Halimeda bioherms, examining their physical, chemical, and biological properties across spatial scales. She holds a PhD and undergraduate degrees from QUT in Earth Science and Environmental Science.
Her career includes prestigious awards such as the Terry Walker Award (2018) and the Thinkable Peer Prize for Women in Science (2017). She has secured grants from organizations like National Geographic and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. McNeil’s publications emphasize Halimeda bioherm morphology, inter-reef habitats, and environmental change impacts, with notable contributions to Coral Reefs and Nature Ecology and Evolution.
Academically, she teaches Earth Systems, Marine Geoscience, and Climate Change units, and has held roles in QUT’s Academic Board and Learning and Teaching Committees. Her work bridges research and education, with a focus on advancing understanding of Great Barrier Reef ecosystems.
