Marcus Turner is the Director of Undergraduate Media Studies Programs and Assistant Professor of Filmmaking at The New School's School of Media Studies. He holds an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and a B.A. from The University of Cincinnati. His research focuses on African-American and World Cinemas, the intersection of Jazz and Cinema, and innovative documentary practices. Turner has won prestigious awards including the CLIO Award and Emmy nominations for his work in public service announcements like 'ET TU BRUTUS.'
Current projects include a documentary on public education futures and an audio-visual archive of contemporary Jazz musicians. He teaches courses such as 'Black Film: A People’s Journey' and 'Cinematography & Lighting,' emphasizing technical mastery and social relevance. Turner is a member of the Directors Guild of America and Local 52 of IATSE, reflecting his industry engagement.
