Marcus Schindler is an Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Gothenburg and currently serves as Executive Vice President & Chief Scientific Officer, Research & Early Development at Novo Nordisk A/S. He leads the transformation of drug discovery into novel therapy areas like Cardiovascular and NASH, emphasizing human-centric approaches, new modes of action, and innovative treatment modalities such as stem cells and siRNA. His leadership includes expanding external partnerships, establishing an Innovation Hub in Boston, and managing Transformational Research Units.
- Education: PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Cambridge
His research focuses on advancing scientific innovation through interdisciplinary strategies, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications and 25 international patent applications. He also serves on the Supervisory Board of Innate Pharma (France).
Leadership roles span over 20 years in global pharma/biotech, including AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, and OSI/Prosidion. His work emphasizes bridging academia and industry to accelerate therapeutic development.
