Marcus Doshi is a Professor in the Department of Theatre at Northwestern University's School of Communication. He is an international theatre maker specializing in lighting and set design for theatre, opera, and dance, with extensive collaborations across prestigious institutions like Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, and Theatre for a New Audience.
- Education: MFA in Stage Design from Yale University and BA in Theatre from Wabash College.
His research focuses on theatrical lighting design, stage design theory, and cross-disciplinary collaborations in performance arts. Recent work includes the book Towards Good Lighting for the Stage: Aesthetic Theory for Theatrical Lighting Design (2024), which explores lighting aesthetics in theatrical contexts.
His designs have been showcased globally in venues such as the Royal Opera House (London), La Monnaie/De Munt (Brussels), and Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia (Valencia), as well as across the U.S. at Broadway, off-Broadway, and regional theatres.
