Marcus Brüggen

Prof. Dr. Marcus Brüggen is a Full Professor (W3) for Extragalactic Astrophysics/Observational Cosmology at the University of Hamburg since 2012. He serves as Principal Investigator and Area Coordinator for Gravitational Waves within the Cluster of Excellence "Quantum Universe", and heads the Hamburg Observatory. His affiliations include leadership roles in the German Long Wavelength Consortium (GLOW) and the 4MOST instrument consortium.

Research focuses on astrophysical fluid dynamics, magnetic fields in galaxy clusters, cosmic ray acceleration, and machine learning applications in radio astronomy. He leads the XMAGNET exascale MHD simulation project and studies nonthermal components in the intracluster medium through LOFAR observations.

Recent work explores self-interacting dark matter phenomenology and multi-phase plasma dynamics in galactic winds. His group develops open-source frameworks like radionets for deep learning in radio interferometry and participates in SKA data challenges.
