Marcos García Suero

Prof. Marcos García Suero is an ICREA Professor and Senior Group Leader at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), leading a research group focused on developing new reactivity concepts in C-H and C-C bond functionalization for drug discovery and chemical biology. He holds an ERC Consolidator Grant and an ERC Proof of Concept Grant, among other prestigious awards. His work bridges fundamental research with practical applications, including covalent drug design and molecular editing.

Education & Career: Graduated in Chemistry from Universidad de Oviedo (2003), PhD from the Institute of Organometallic Chemistry Enrique Moles (2009). Postdoctoral research at Harvard University and the University of Cambridge. Became an independent group leader at ICIQ in 2014, tenured in 2020, and awarded the ICREA Professorship in 2023.

Research Interests: Discovery of novel catalytic methods for late-stage functionalization, covalent drug warhead development, and skeletal editing. Key areas include photoredox and rhodium-catalyzed reactions, asymmetric synthesis, and applications in medicinal chemistry.
